Your recordings stay on your phone.

Topline does not collect, store, or sell any data about you. We run no servers and cannot see your recordings. Here is exactly what the app does with your information.

Stored on your device

• Recordings. Audio you record or import is saved in the app’s private storage on your iPhone or iPad and is included in your device backups.
• Lyrics and edits. Transcriptions and any word edits are stored with the recording.
• Progressions and settings. Chord progressions, imported backing tracks, and preferences such as appearance stay on the device.

Services the app talks to

• Apple speech recognition. When automatic transcription is on, recordings are transcribed with Apple’s Speech framework. Depending on your device and language, Apple may process the audio on its servers, under Apple’s privacy policy. You can turn transcription off in Settings, and revoke the permission in iOS Settings at any time.
• Datamuse word lookup. When you tap a word for rhymes or synonyms, that single word is sent to the Datamuse API. Nothing else from your lyrics, and nothing that identifies you, is sent.
• Siri. Starting a recording by voice is handled by Apple’s Siri and App Intents frameworks. Topline receives only the instruction to start.

The app contains no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites.

• Microphone, to record.
• Speech recognition, to transcribe. Optional.

Sharing, children, changes

When you share a take, the audio file goes to the app you choose, under that app’s policy. Topline is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date.
